Matthew Browndorf Speaks at International Life Settlements Conference in London

Browndorf, founder of Browndorf PEM a private equity management company, speaks on “The Emergence of Synthetic Instruments.”

Newport Beach, Calif. May 20, 2009 – Matthew Browndorf, Chief Investment Officer and Founder of Browndorf PEM, LLC., spoke today at the International Life Settlements Conference in London, England on the emergence of synthetic life settlement instruments.

The International Life Settlements Conference is the largest International event for investors, investment bankers, hedge funds, providers, brokers and attorneys who are active in the life settlement business. Currently, European interest in the longevity markets as an alternative asset class uncorrelated to traditional investments is leading a charge by global investors who are behind a steady flow of capital into the U.S. life settlements’ market.

“The future of the life settlements market from an investor point of view is tilting towards the synthetic space,” said Browndorf. “As we discussed on the panel this morning, synthetics allows for the systematic targeting of a life settlement portfolio’s risk profile, allowing us as asset managers to construct and manage a portfolio of longevity risks that seeks to optimize the risk-return and cash flow profiles to a client’s investment objectives.”

Browndorf’s panel topic, “The Emergence of Synthetic Instruments,” explored the emerging use of synthetic settlements for a myriad of investors, the techniques involved, the potential elimination of policy-related risks and the legal and tax advantages of these new transactions.
